Director, Client Finance (Remote) - Healthcare

Who You’ll Be Working With:

This is a high visibility position within the Client Finance department.  You will be interfacing directly with one of our major clients, serving as their main point of contact for the department, you will also work with all of the functional teams within our department as well as key leaders and individuals across the entire Evolent Health Services organization in order to solve problems and improve results.

What You’ll Be Doing:

The main focus of this position will be to interact directly with our client and to ensure that all of the department’s deliverables are executed in a timely, accurate, and complete manner.  Our department supports several key functions for this client.  This role will be accountable for ensuring our deliverables related to Premium Billing and Collection, Broker Commission payments, Provider Disbursements, and Accounting Support exceed our client’s expectations.  To do so, you will develop and manage a run book of key tasks and manage an issues list.  It is critical that you come at problems from a perspective that balances the best interests of our client’s members, our client, and Evolent.   You will be expected to provide consultative advice to others within our org based on your broad and deep experience.  You will manage and prioritize the work of a geographically disbursed staff both in the United States and abroad, although you will not always have administrative authority over those employees.  The specific items include:

Member Premium Billing and Collection

  • Ensures that the monthly premium billing process is executed on time and accurately
  • Track and report invoice inventory
  • Work internally and externally to communicate issues and manage corrections to completion so that all coverage months are billed
  • Ensure billed premium is reconciled to eligibility data
  • Ensure timely and accurate posting of cash received
  • Work with external PayFac to ensure interface files are working as expected
  • Supervise billing and AR managers, supervisors and staff
  • Prioritize work and ensure items in workflow queues are managed within SLAs and KPIs
  • Develop and/or report on and monitor SLAs and KPIs
  • Assist in the management of year end and interim audits
  • Work with our technical leads and developers on enhancements and production support corrections
  • Manage cash disbursements to members
  • Liaise with banks and internal Treasury staff to manage client banking relationships
  • Provide direction and expertise in internal controls
  • Prepare and update accounting policies and procedures and desk top procedures
  • Perform data manipulation and analysis
  • Manage the relationship between Client Finance and Other departments

Broker Commission Management

  • Supervise the commission manager and staff
  • Develop and/or report and monitor SLAs and KPIs
  • Ensure Agency and Broker tables are up to date, accurate, and audited
  • Prepare and reconciles adjusting transactions to facilitate payments and adjustments that are not calculated automatically
  • Review and approve commission payment reports
  • Work with the team to respond to Broker, Client, and Member Services inquiries
  • Develop and/or report on and monitor SLAs and KPIs

Prioritize work and ensure items in workflow queues are managed within SLAs and KPI

Financial management, Treasury and Accounting

  • Supervise the accounting managers and staff
  • Develop and/or report on and monitor SLAs and KPIs
  • Work with the treasury analyst to ensure bank accounts are funded and claims disbursements are well controlled and completed on time
  • Ensure GL entries are delivered timely and accurately to the client.
  • Ensure month end reports are completed, reviewed and delivered on time
  • Develop controls over the GL file production process to ensure error free delivery of files
  • Work with internal staff and the Enrollment department to ensure government subsidy payments are accounted for and collected.  This includes ensuring that all payment disputes are submitted and tracked to receipt
  • Work with the accounting staff to develop monthly reconciliations to ensure all client GL accounts touched by Evolent are well supported and reconciled
  • Ensure 1099 and 1095 forms are completed on time and accurately
  • Perform reviews of internal controls and HIPAA privacy and security risks
  • Identify efficiencies, develop and implement process improvements

The Experience You’ll Need (Required):

  • Undergraduate and/or graduate degree in accounting
  • Strong understanding of generally accepting accounting principles, statutory accounting principles, accounting methods, and audit procedures
  • A solid and broad understanding of managed care, Health Insurance products, health care cost drivers, and financial principals
  • 10+ years of experience managing and improving operational processes
  • At least 5 years of experience interacting directly with external entities
  • Knowledge of payment channels and banking
  • High level of comfort with technology
  • Strong MS office skills, especially MS Excel and Access
  • Ability to communicate clearly and succinctly
  • High level of expertise in project management and root cause identification

Finishing Touches (Preferred):

  • CPA
  • MBA

Technical requirements:

This position can be remote or office based.   During the current pandemic, Evolent employees are working remotely from home. As such we require that all employees have the following technical capability at their home: High speed internet over 10 MBPS and, specifically for all call center employees, the ability to plug in directly to the home internet router. These at-home technical requirements are subject to change with any scheduled re-opening of our office locations.

Some future travel to our office or the client’s office may be required.
